Pongur Waterfall - Pearl of Dalat

Pongour Waterfall is one of the largest and most beautiful in Vietnam. During the rainy season, water flows in a wide stream in many cascades, and flows into the pool at the foot. In the dry season, the waterfall loses its power and becomes like a lot of streams, but still retains its beauty. One thing is bad: a waterfall is located at a distance of about 50 kilometers from Dalat. If you will be in Dalat during the rainy season, be sure to go to the waterfall, even despite such a long distance, an amazing sight is guaranteed to you. In addition, on the way to the waterfall, you will see beautiful landscapes, you will pass by coffee and avocad plantations.

Access to the falls is paid - 10,000 dong. The territory is quite large and well-groomed, there are gazebos for relaxing and a picnic, several cafes, houses for recreation. Organized parking (2000 dong). You will have to walk about 500 meters from the entrance to the waterfall itself. If you wish, you can swim in the pool at the foot of the waterfall, but in the dry season the depth there is very small.

If you set a goal only to quickly look at the waterfall and go further, a little more than half an hour (not counting the time for the trip) will be enough to visit it. But if time allows you, you can stay here for a few hours, relax and take a walk around the neighborhood: here you can find and see a lot of interesting things.

💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: 10000 dongs (see the currency of Vietnam).

🚶 How to get there: The waterfall is located 50 kilometers south of Dalat (see the position of the Pongur waterfall on the map of Dalat). You can get there only by rented transport or taxi. Rare excursions bring tourists here.

How to get to Pongur Waterfall

How to get to Pongur from Nha Trang? First come to Dalat. How to come here on your own, we already told you in the article Nha Trang - Dalat. We arrived, checked into the hotel and rested after the road. The next day there are 2 options for getting there:

  • Rent a bike for 120-150 thousand dong ($ 5-7) per day
  • Or a car with a driver. A taxi for the whole day costs about 1-1.2 million dong ($ 50-60).

This way you can get to Pongur waterfall yourself. You can visit a couple of places along the way - Prenn Waterfall, Elephant Waterfall, Datanla Waterfall and Chuk Lam Monastery. Just don’t take the bike immediately for such a long trip if you do not have driving experience.

Wonderful waterfall

There are some beautiful waterfalls near Dalat, but Pongour Wanterfall is a real gem among them. It is not striking in height, but there is no other such beauty and grandeur, not only in the vicinity of the mountain resort town, but also in Vietnam.

Spreading 100 meters from a height of 40 meters, flowing streams of water rush down to a small lake along seven natural steps.

Around the waterfall are 25 hectares of virgin rainforest, with walking paths, gazebos, toilets and benches.

The entrance is at the top of the park, and to get to the waterfall you have to go down 900 meters along a picturesque path. It lies under the crowns of relict trees. For the convenience of tourists, a signpost is installed on the fork, which says where Pongur is located. The park itself is compact and therefore impossible to get lost in it.

The mighty tree in the park. The bridge to the waterfall.

The highlight of the waterfall are natural steps. You can walk along them, climb up, get inside the waterfall. The water here is clean and quite warm. And when you get tired of jumping on the steps and frolic in the water, it is very pleasant to sit next to the streams of water and enjoy the beautiful view.

There are small stalls in the park where you can buy water and have a snack, but if you want to spend a couple of hours near the waterfall, it is better to bring food with you. Also in the park there are souvenir shops and shops with Vietnamese honey.

To enjoy all the splendor and power of this miracle of nature, it is best to come to him in the rainy season, but in the winter period (from October to May) the attraction will not leave anyone indifferent.

How to get there - point on the map

Pongur Waterfall is located 50 kilometers from Dalat in a nature park of the same name.

To get to it you can:

  1. use taxi services
  2. book an individual tour
  3. rent a bike and get on your own,
  4. take a taxi.

We traveled with two children, so we chose the first option.

From Dalat to the waterfall you need to go along the highway DT 725 towards the airport. After approximately 42 km, at the Thác Ponguor sign, turn right and drive another 6.5 kilometers.

The road to the airport has recently been repaired, and driving along it is a pleasure, but after that, the highway narrows and is quite heavily loaded with trucks.
